Dank
Hallo Tobyio,
as i know you are from UK, so i´ll give my very best and try in english. 🙂 .
A few days ago, there was another Thread in this Forum, it´s title was "Was sind das für Sitze?", posted by Andreas. If i don´t mind bad, the seats have the same look as your´s!
Don´t matter and write in english, there are a number of us, who can do so.
Best regards, Stefan.
I
hi Tobyio,
first of all, gratulation to your new hatchback mk1. as written by Stefan K. in the previous answer, this kind of seats are having basically the same trim, but the finish shave differs. The seats in the upper named threat are surrounded by black drapery. I am not sure that these seats are comparable to yours. But here are a lot of specialists with much more knowledge about interior than me.
is it possible that you take some pictures from your engine, especially from motor number, from the intake manifold and from the vale covering. maybe i have in my hatch also an engine of 78 installed.
thanks in advance,
Schewisch
Hello,
Schewisch is absolutely right because of the surrounding of the mid of the seat. As i remember right, these are special equipment only for the GTI with these black sides. The special equipment for the non-GTI´s was the look like the ones in Andreas ´ threat.
And what did I say: many of us know the english language. I didn´t lie.
Greets, Stefan.
Thank you for your replies and welcome!
Schewisch the car is on a transporter from Portugal so I will post some engine pics when it arrives with me in the UK.
I am slightly confused, I know as standard they should be black and silver schottenkaro tartan and like you say the black sides from the mid seat area. Stefan are you saying my seats without the mid black sides may have been special equipment?
Mornin´,
about the "special-equipment": As i rember right, there was some talk with others about that thing. You could order these look of seats as a "special wish", for the non-GTI in the look of the ones in all over black and white karo, for the GTI only with the black sides.
But i must say: I´m not the best expert in GTI, I´m predominantly a Diesel-driver.
Old Volkswagen´s are sometimes a great mystery. Some cars, produced after a special date, should have these and those parts in the one typical outfit built in after that date. But in some cases, you make a barn-find, that is produced BEFORE that special date, and it has the "After"-parts, too.
That´s the point of great confusion. And for especially the Cars built for the export-market, are mostly equipped a little bit different from the german-ones.
If got your car at home, post a question at www.history@volkswagen.de with the frame-number and after a few days, you´ll get an answer (for free!!) about the original equipment of your car. Probably, the seats in that look have been delivered with your car.
That´s all for the moment, I have to go to the scrapyard, lookin´ for some parts for the Golf 🙂 .
Stefan.
P.S.: Will we see you next year at the MK1 Meeting in Wolfsburg in Juy?

Hi Stefan,
Thanks for your advice.
VW have told me it left the factory and went straight to England but they can't tell me what dealership in the UK which is a shame. I have now been told from a previous owner when the car was imported as new the buyer did not like the black and silver tartan interior so he picked another interior from the 76 scirroco brochure! I wonder what happened to the brand new black and silver tartan interior that was removed.... The car still is in transport from Portugal but should be with me by friday when i will investigate more.
I think I will come out to Wolfsburg next year but not with my golf 🙁 as I can't see me having completed the restoration in time 🙁
